About MemoCelts
back to memocelts
My thanks to CCC member Alessandro Boretti "Boretim" from The Italian Bhoys CSC for taking the time to give me the history to the Celtic fanzines "Celti Insubri" and "Memocelts"

First was the “celti insubri” , a ‘zine by Italian Celtic supporter Massimiliano Bordignon, now a reporter who live in Milan. It was a good fanzine, with regular “section” as the players profile, match to remember, “last page” and of course season stats.

He produced the fanzine until No. 3; after we met in Carisolo for the celtic preseason tour in 1993, he passed me the job as he was much busy. From No.4 to No.6 I produced the fanzine with news about the current days. But the job was very busy, also ‘cause it wasn’t still the internet era, so was difficult take news; my mentors was not the view ( I’m a subscriber), teletext and my friend from Glasgow who sent me regularly the “Pravda” + Daily Record.

I sent every time about 12 copies to friends in Italy + 1 copy to “not the view” and some other in Scotland; the cost was only that one of ….. the stamp!!!!. The name “Celti Insubri” was the name of celts population who invaded and stayed in north of italy at time of Roman Empire. Cover No.4 was the presentation of new staff at Parkhead, but when I printed the fanzine I received news about Brady + Jordan rejected the job (Jordan is well known and known and admired in Verona as he played only one season for us, but was a 100% professional, gentleman and …… a Celt, of course).

So I decided to cross the cover with a black line. No.5 is, of course a brilliant news of Luigi Macari new Celtic manager, who put happiness among us as we beat huns at Ibrox thanks a 2 super-level-football-style-more-than- pelè + crujiff + maradona goals.

No.6 was a mixed ticket from my collection of matches I attended. So after No.6 early in 1994 as the job was really heavy, and as the Roma branch of the celtic fans edited an own fanzine titled “memocelts” I decided was time to pass the job, also because it was better print a one only fanzine for one only club. Meanwhile in 1993 we formed the “Italian Bhoys C.S.C.” where I was vice president; about the memocelts I use to send articles as my contribution. By now the authors were Massimiliano Troiani and Nima Rafat from Rome, who start No.1 for memocelts in January 1994 ….; fanzine was only 1 paper.

They printed Memocelts until the end of season 1996; on summer they declined to continue the job as also for them was so busy. So Boretim take back the job and re-started with No.12 in September 1996; the story went ahead very well as we won the league in 1998, but in November the fanzine finished as for me (then married and with baby coming) was impossible go on. Memocelts plan had a comment on 2nd page signed by boretim (nickname was appropriated a that times…), a section with stats, scores and news, section of celtic story (celtic in euro competition, celtic in league cup final for many years in a row, ….). but the spirit of the fanzine, as I wrote in the front cover, was the irony about our loved team.

here below is a description of what was the cover title of memocelts fanzine issues.
